Decommissioned North Sea platform arrives in England
Brent Delta has completed the journey from north-east Shetland to Hartlepool.
One of Britain's biggest and oldest oil platforms has completed its journey to England as part of the North Sea's first major decommissioning project.
A purpose-built ship has helped transport the Brent Delta platform from its location 115 miles north east of Shetland to Hartlepool in County Durham.
Oil company Shell took the decision to dismantle Brent Delta in February 2015.
At its peak in 1982, the Brent field in Britain's North Sea basin produced more than half a million barrels a day.
Delta ceased production in 2011 but production continued through Brent Charlie.
More than 100 platforms in UK and Norwegian waters are poised to be removed over the next ten years.
Industry experts say dismantling offshore installations and the associated pipelines could cost £10.4bn by 2022.
