Suspected Second World War explosive blown up onbeach
A section of Aberdeen beach has been closed off after the discovery on Friday.
Ordnance believed to date back to the Second World War has been blown up on Aberdeen Beach.
A 650ft-wide cordon was established around the device after it was discovered in the Bridge of Don area on Friday morning.
A Royal Navy bomb disposal team was scrambled from Faslane and destroyed the ordnance, which was badly corroded and no longer explosive.
Police Scotland's inspector Mark Stephen said: "Following a review it was established that the device potentially had no explosive capability, however a controlled explosion was carried out as a precaution.
"I would stress that there was no threat to the public at any stage.
"Thank you to the public and motorists for their patience while this incident was dealt with."
A wartime rifle grenade found on a beach in the Highlands was blown up on Wednesday.
A Royal Navy team was called out after children were found playing with the live explosive on Tuesday.
