A ScotRail train has collided with a fallen tree in Aberdeenshire.

The incident happened on the outskirts of Inverurie at around 11am on Wednesday.

The line was blocked by the broken down train until 12.30pm and replacement buses were organised for travellers.

Nobody is believed to have been injured in the collision near the former International Paper mill.

The line fully reopened at around 1pm but journeys were affected until 2.30pm.

A ScotRail Alliance spokesman said: "Due to a train hitting a tree between Aberdeen and Inverness services along the route are disrupted.

"We have replacement buses in place to get our customers where they need to be.

"We apologise to anyone delayed by this incident and would remind those delayed by 30 minutes or more to retain their tickets to claim a refund through our Delay Repay scheme."
