An armed thief wearing tape on his face has robbed a convenience store in Aberdeenshire.

The incident happened at Spar on St Modans Place in Fraserburgh at 6am on Tuesday.

Nobody was injured but the thief escaped with more than £100 and items from the shop.

Police said he was wearing safety glasses and had tape over his face.

Detective sergeant Martyn Thomson said: "Thankfully no one was hurt during the incident, however the staff member who was in the shop at the time was understandably shaken.

"A full investigation including speaking to witnesses and reviewing CCTV is underway and I am appealing for anyone who was in the area around the time in question and saw anything suspicious to contact Police.

"Likewise anyone who saw a person matching the description provided either before the time of the robbery or after should come forward. You may have vital information which could assist our investigation."

The thief was described as white and was between 5ft 10in and 6ft tall.

He was wearing a light grey bomber jacket, dark trousers with a stripe down the side, a black hat and gloves.
