A rapist has been convicted after his victim showed a court pictures she had taken of her injuries.

The woman said she took the photographs on her mobile phone after she was assaulted by Kristopher Mayo at a house in Ellon, Aberdeenshire.

The 33-year-old told the High Court in Edinburgh that she sent the images to a relative in a plea for help.

She told advocate depute Mark Mcguire that bruising on her chest was caused by Mayo restraining her.

She said: "He just pushed down. It was like a dead weight on my chest. It was hard to breath."

The woman also took pictures of a hand injury.

She said: "I had cut myself. I wasn't sure what I had cut myself on. I wanted to document what had happened."

The woman added blood on her hand had come from a split lip she suffered when her face was shoved into a bed.

The woman told the court she had not wanted to "engage in any sexual contact of any description" at the time of the incident.

Mayo, 31, of Station Road, Ellon, had denied assaulting and raping the woman on February 15, 2015.

A jury at the High Court in Edinburgh convicted him on a majority verdict of the crime.

Lady Scott remanded Mayo in custody ahead of sentencing later in August and placed him on the sex offenders register.
