A teacher jailed for asking a 15-year-old schoolgirl to send him an explicit picture of herself has been struck off the teaching register.

Jonathan Wylie was given a two-year sentence after being convicted at Elgin Sheriff Court in November.

The former Elgin Academy PE teacher was also found guilty of sending sexual messages to a child and taking, permitting to be taken, or making an indecent photograph or pseudo-photograph of a child.

Wylie has been removed from the register for at least two years after waiving his right to defend himself at a General Teaching Council for Scotland hearing this week.

The panel has referred Wylie to Scottish ministers and they will now decide whether or not the father-of-two should be banned from working with children and protected adults.

His name will remain on the sex offenders register for at least ten years.
