An experienced climber has died after falling during an organised climb in the Cairngorms.

Mountain rescue teams and emergency services were scrambled to the Aladdin’s Buttress area to search for Peter Nielsen on Friday.

The 32-year-old was airlifted to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness, where he later died.

Mr Nielsen, from Tranent in East Lothian, was an experienced climber who had been on an expedition with an organised climbing group when he fell.

A police spokeswoman said his family wanted to thank the mountain rescue teams for their work to rescue him.

She added: "A report regarding the death has been submitted to the procurator fiscal."
