Plans to redevelop a historic hospital site in Aberdeen into a public space with a 52-bedroom boutique hotel have been unveiled.

CAF Properties has applied for planning permission to renovate four blocks of the old Woolmanhill Hospital, the original location of the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

The plans are set to incorporate 27 serviced apartments, 32 residential apartments and 10 affordable flats as well as a focal central square.

The application has been made jointly with NHS Grampian, who still own the site, and will be owned by Glasgow-based hospitality operator G1 Group.

Charlie Ferrari, who developed the plans, hopes his design will complement the area while keeping the cultural integrity of the site intact.

He said: “This site is known to generations of Aberdonians and visitors alike and is valued for its heritage. We hope to bring back to life and make it a vibrant addition to the cityscape.”

If approved, CAF Properties hope to begin work by the middle of next year and have it complete by 2019.
