An oil worker has been airlifted off a North Sea platform with suspected spinal injuries.

The man was flown to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary following the incident aboard the Montrose Alpha on Monday morning.

The helicopter landed at around 11.15am, a spokesman for Aberdeen Coastguard said.

They added: "The team were called out of bed and away from their jobs this morning to assist Bond 1 en route to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with a casualty with suspected spinal injuries from offshore.

"Bond 1 landed at approximately 11.15am and the team assisted in the smooth transfer of the casualty into the awaiting ambulance."
