The MV Priscilla became stuck on the Pentland Skerries off the Caithness coast after running aground on July 18.
On Wednesday evening, the ship was refloated successfully.
It is understood checks were then made on the Priscilla to ensure she was seaworthy before she was towed away towards Scapa Flow.
Part of the ship's 3300 tonne cargo of fertiliser were earlier offloaded onto a barge to lighten the vessel, while 28 tonnes of oil have also been removed.
The six crew on board are said to be safe and well.
