A man has died after falling from a mountain in the Highlands.

Emergency services were called to Carn Mor Dearg, close to Fort William, at 12.35pm on Monday.

Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team and the Coastguard helicopter attended, but the 58-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: "Police Scotland can confirm that a man has died as a result of a fall while walking in the Lochaber area.

"Emergency services attended but the 58-year-old man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"His next of kin are aware.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course."
