An animal rescue centre which is home to dozens of exotic species is facing an uncertain future.

The Scottish Exotic Animal Rescue Centre near Inverness has less than two months to find a new home after being asked to move out.

The not-for-profit charity looks after animals like lizards, raccoons, tortoises and snakes - including a bright yellow 16ft-long python named Debbie.

Another python, Sam, was burned with cigarettes and injected with heroin by his owner before the centre rescued him, said volunteer Eve MacLennan.

Some animals have been taken in from owners who were unable to look after them, while others were seized from travellers at airports.

The centre, which relies on public donations, has until August 20 to find a new home.

"Since most of our funds come from public generosity it can be difficult," Eve said.

She added: "We need to move and we need more space.

"If we don't find a new home, we might have to shut down. We would have to move our animals out."

The rescue centre faced a similar problem in 2011 when it was forced to move out of its former home at Bogbain Adventure Farm.
