Ex-youth football coach jailed for abusing boys at club
Ian Jolly, 70, committed serious sexual offences during the 1980 and 90's.
A football coach has been jailed for two years and three months after he admitted sexually abusing boys at his club.
Ian Jolly, 70, committed a number of serious sexual offences against his victims during the 1980 and 90's.
One of his victims came forward in December 2016 after seeing publicity around the investigation into alleged abuse in football.
Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard that he abused one of the boys over a three year period from 1987.
Jolly, of Edinburgh, also indecently assaulted, exposed himself to, or performed sex acts in front of three others in the 1990s.
Fiscal depute Katy Begg told the court one of the victims became so accustomed to Jolly's behaviour he did as he was told to get it over with.
Jolly pleaded guilty on indictment to three charges of lewd, indecent and libidinous practices and behaviour and four of indecent assault at a hearing last month.
Sheriff William Summers jailed him for a total of 27 months.
Jolly was also placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
Andy Shanks, Procurator Fiscal for Grampian Highlands & Islands, said: "Ian Jolly committed a number of serious sexual offences against boys.
"Although these crimes took place decades ago, this case, and others like it, show that justice can be achieved after many years.
"We strongly encourage anyone who has been a victim of any such offences to report this to the police, even after a significant passage of time, and they can be confident that they will be treated with the utmost professionalism and sensitivity by the police and our expert prosecutors."
