A pedestrian has been injured after being struck by a car near a petrol station.

The incident happened on North Road near Leask's filling station in Lerwick, Shetland, at 11.20am on Tuesday.

The man was taken to hospital but the extent of his injuries are not yet known.

Officers have closed the route and diversions have been put in place on Old North Road.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We dispatched two ambulances to the scene.

"One male patient was transported to Gilbert Bain Hospital."
