Sea eagle swoops on island's crop-destroying geese
The bird, called Marra, has been appointed as a pest controller by farmers in Orkney.
Farmers in Orkney have employed an unusual method of pest control in the form of a sea eagle.
Geese have been causing problems for farmers and their crops and they have called upon a Fife-based falconry to help.
Marra, the white-tailed sea eagle, has been patrolling the skies above Orkney carrying out her new role as a pest controller for farmers.
Geese have been wreaking havoc on farms up and down the country, grazing in large numbers.
Scarecrows have traditionally been used to warn off any unwanted visitors but now Fife-based Elite Falconry has been called in to assist.
Dubbed the flying barn-door, the predator with a wing span of up to 9ft has been hunting geese on the island for the last couple of weeks.
Excelling in areas near cliffs, the birds glide over the land using the element of surprise to attack their prey from above.
The company now hopes to share its findings from Orkney and apply them to a support programme for farmers across the country.
