A stretch of the A9 has been closed after a crash involving a lorry and a car.

The collision happened on the busy route at Aviemore in the Highlands.

Officers have shut the road in both directions following the smash shortly before 4pm on Wednesday.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "It is a serious crash. Diversions have been put in place through Aviemore.

"All emergency services are in attendance."

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokeswoman added: "We dispatched two ambulances and are currently still on scene."
