A newborn baby who died in hospital after taking unwell at a house in the Highlands has been named.

Mikayla Haining was at a house on Mackay Road in Inverness when an ambulance was called on Thursday because her condition was deteriorating.

The three-week-old girl was taken to Raigmore Hospital, where she was pronounced dead that afternoon.

A police investigation was launched and enquiries have been ongoing over the weekend.

The death is still being treated by officers as unexplained.

Detective inspector Brian Geddes said: "We have been conducting a number of enquiries in the local community as we try to establish the full circumstances surrounding Michaela's death.

"Specialist officers, including forensic officers have been involved in the investigation so far and will continue to be in the area over the next few days.

"I'd like to thank the community for their patience while these enquiries continue."
