A total of 14 dogs have been seized after a cannabis farm with the potential of producing £9000 worth of the drug was discovered.

Officers also found a four-figure sum of money at the farm in a property in Wick in the Highlands on Friday.

The 14 dogs were taken into the care of the Scottish SPCA.

A 31-year-old man has been charged in connection with the discovery. He is expected to appear in court at a later date.

Sergeant Brian Hamilton, of Wick Police Station, said: " We will continue to act on information provided to us by the community and would encourage anyone with information to come forward."

Chief Inspector Iain Allan, of the Scottish SPCA, said: "We can confirm that we visited a property in the Wick area and removed a number of dogs owing to concerns about their welfare.

"At present the investigation is still on going."
