A knife attacker slashed a man in the neck while waiting for a takeaway pizza.
The serious assault occurred on Grant Street in Inverness.
The victim, who is from Poland, was seen coming out of the Nip Inn pub before entering into an altercation.
Another man, who is understood to have been waiting on food from the nearby Spicy Spot takeaway, then slashed the victim following an argument.
Police confirmed the victim who was in his 20s suffered knife injuries to his neck and arms after the incident, which happened on Tuesday night.
His injuries have been described as serious but not life-threatening.
Officers cordoned off the street while forensic investigations were carried out.
Those in the area at the time were also questioned by officers.
A police spokeswoman said: "Police were called to Grant Street, Inverness, at around 9.45pm following reports that a man had been seriously assaulted.
"The injuries are serious but not life-threatening.
"Police enquiries are ongoing and police are following a positive line of inquiry."
