A newly opened £15.4m primary school has been forced to shut because of a broken heating system.

Highland Council said a leak in the ceiling of Noss Primary in Wick has caused "significant damage" to the school.

Parents were asked to collect their children on Tuesday afternoon and the school is expected to remain closed until May 30 for "pupil safety".

Highland Council director of care and learning Bill Alexander said: "Naturally everyone is very disappointed, as things had been running particularly well at the new school."

Noss Primary welcomed its first pupils in April after the closure of the North and Hillhead schools in Wick.
