A major search is under way for a hiker who disappeared in Glen Coe.

Edward Davies, 39, of Hampshire, planned to go hiking on Sgùrr na h-Ulaidh, south of the village of Glencoe, on Sunday.

He has not been in contact with friends or family since and was reported missing on Wednesday night.

The Glencoe and Oban mountain rescue teams are searching the area, supported by police officers and a coastguard helicopter.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Concern was raised last night for Edward, who is from the Hampshire area.

"It is believed Edward planned a hike in the area of Sgùrr na h-Ulaidh, Glencoe, on Sunday but has not been in contact with friends or family since.

"Edward has access to a white Toyota Aygo car, which was parked near to the Glencoe visitor centre."

Mr Davies is 5ft 11in, with a slim build and cropped dark brown hair
