Ravers planning to attend a party in the Inverness area have been warned they could be arrested.

Police in the Highlands said anyone who travelled to the event on Wednesday could be committing a criminal offence and would be dealt with "robustly".

A spokesman said officers would be in attendance around the planned location to prevent access.

Chief inspector Colin Gough added: "Our main priority is to ensure public safety and to prevent crime. The organisers of the planned rave do not have permission from the landowners to use the site and have not sought the relevant licences from the local authority.

"We have been in contact with the landowner of the site where the rave is potentially being held and will have resources in the area to assist with preventing illegal access.

"Anyone planning to attend the rave should be aware that you may be committing a criminal offence and we will deal with any criminality robustly.

"We are asking the public to report any suspicious behaviour to us and advising farmers and landowners to be aware that people looking to hold an illegal rave may be operating in the area and as such should ensure that property and outbuildings are secure."
