Rivers are being searched for a man missing more than 400 miles from home in the Cairngorms.

Jason Gates, who was last seen in the Aviemore area on March 12, was reported missing on Thursday.

The 36-year-old, from Hampshire, England, may have been sighted in Drumnadrochit three days earlier.

The RNLI carried out searches of Urquhart Bay on Friday along with the Inverness Coastguard team.

Meanwhile, separate searches have been made of the wooded area around Drumnadrochit near Loch Ness.

Mr Gates is around 6ft 3in tall, with a slim build, close-cropped greying hair and stubble. He often wears black jeans, a T-shirt, a black padded jacket or tweed jacket and walking boots, police said.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Anyone with information about Mr Gates’ whereabouts, or anyone who has seen a man matching his description, is urged to contact officers on 101.”
