The search for a kayaker who went missing off Scotland's west coast has been stood down.

The man, who is understood to be in his 30s, set off from Traigh Beach on Arisaig, Inverness-shire on Wednesday.

A major search was launched for the man after he failed to return to his car, with helicopter and lifeboat crews continuing the search on Thursday.

The coatguard said he had been warned not to go out in stormy weather conditions.

Angus MacIver, duty controller for the UK Coastguard said: "Following a comprehensive search effort in the area with nothing found, a decision has been taken to terminate the search pending any further information."

The man's family have been informed of the circumstances, the coastguard said.
