Legendary rockers The Cure have been revealed as the first headliner for next year's Glasgow Summer Sessions.

The hugely influential band will perform at Bellahouston Park, which will be their first Scottish gig in 27 years following a run of shows in 1992.

Set to be one of the most anticipated performances of the year, organisers DF Concerts, are proud to have tempted The Cure to headline a major Scottish festival for the first time.

Over five decades, The Cure have performed around 1500 concerts, made 13 studio albums and more than 40 singles, and with new releases imminent, 2019's line-up of frontman Robert Smith along with long-time band members Simon Gallup (bass), Jason Cooper (drums), Roger O'Donnell (keyboard) and Reeves Gabrels (guitar) is one not to be missed.

Glasgow's very own Mogwai, fellow Scots The Twilight Sad, and Welsh alt-rockers The Joy Formidable will provide support.

Stuart Braithwaite, of Mogwai, said: "When The Cure last played Scotland in 1992, I went to all four shows, skiving school at least once.

"If I'd known that the wait to see them play here again would be so long, I'd have been very shocked.

"I'd have been even more shocked but more so delighted that I'd be in a band opening for them 27 years later. I'm beyond excited and honoured to be part of this bill.

"The Cure are my favourite band and getting to play with them in our home town alongside our great friends The Twilight Sad is something really special."

James Graham, of The Twilight Sad, added: "Having toured the world with The Cure over the past few years, the one question we're always asked when we come home is: 'When are The Cure coming to Glasgow? Have a word with Robert please.'

"We're delighted that we can now share the stage with one of our favourite bands in our home town."

The event will take place on August 16, 2019. Tickets go on sale this Friday at 9am.
