A man has been charged with attempted murder after a security guard was stabbed in supermodel Miranda Kerr's LA home.

Shaun Anthony Haywood, 29, allegedly slashed the guard's face with a knife after breaking into the Australian model's property to deliver a letter.

Haywood, from Australia, was then shot by the armed security guard, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said.

Haywood, also known as Esra, is charged with wilful, deliberate and premeditated attempted murder, aggravated mayhem and assault with a deadly weapon, a knife.

He is due to appear in court on Tuesday. If convicted, he faces a life sentence.

Former Victoria's Secret model Kerr was not at the property at the time of the incident on October 14.

The 33-year-old was previously married to British actor Orlando Bloom who she has five-year-old son Flynn with.

She is currently engaged to Snapchat co-founder Evan Spiegel.
