Phil Collins announces new comeback tour next summer
The singer will play dates in London, Paris and Cologne after changing his mind about retiring.
Phil Collins has announced plans for a comeback tour after saying he has changed his mind about retirement.
The former Genesis frontman, 65, will play five nights at London's Royal Albert Hall next June, as well as dates in Paris and Cologne, as part of the Not Dead Yet, Live tour.
Collins, who has sold over 100 million records, officially retired in 2002 and has not toured since 2007. He quit the industry to spend more time with his family.
"I stopped work because I wanted to be a dad at home," he said.
"As bad luck would have it, as soon as I retired, my family split up. I didn't have anyone to go home to. That's why I started drinking."
The singer, whose hits include In The Air Tonight and Another Day In Paradise, has spoken frankly about his battle with alcohol following a divorce fight with his third wife Orianne Cevey - to whom he subsequently reconciled.
Collins said living with his family again has given him a new perspective on his career, and that he is looking forward to touring again.
"I'm living with my young kids. They want me to go out on the road and do my thing, and why not?" he said.
The singer, who has been using a crutch because of injuries caused by years of drumming, said he is unlikely to play drums but will attempt the famous introduction to In The Air Tonight.
"A lot of people think of me as shiny BMW music - I'm actually the complete opposite of that," he said.
Collins is currently recovering after bruising his face in fall in his hotel bathroom last week.
He told the Evening Standard: "I fell in the bathroom. I went to sit down, and in fact instead of sitting down, I went forward. So it's one of those things. I'm fine, but unfortunately bruising takes a long time to go down."
Asked about the possibility of a Genesis reunion, Collins said: "I wouldn't rule out anything."
