The debut album by Viola Beach is on course to top the charts seven months after the British band were killed in a car crash.

The self-titled posthumous album by the indie four-piece features nine songs, including the single Boys That Sing.

The record is currently 6000 sales ahead of current chart-topper, ELO's All Over The World - The Very Best Of, according to the Official Charts Company.

Singer Kris Leonard, guitarist River Reeves, bassist Tomas Lowe and drummer Jack Dakin died along with their manager Craig Tarry when their car plunged more than 80ft into a canal in Sweden, 18 miles from the capital Stockholm in February.

The families of the Warrington band have released the album to "celebrate" their lives.

In June, Coldplay paid tribute to Viola Beach at Glastonbury by performing Boys That Sing as part of their headline set on the Pyramid Stage.

In a review of the album, music magazine NME said the record "will leave a smile on your face".

"Viola Beach's name will always be synonymous with tragedy, but at least now we have a document of who this band were - and what they might have achieved," the review said.
