A popular teenage social media personality is recovering in hospital after he was involved in a car crash.

Hayes Grier, who has more than 15 million followers across Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and Vine, suffered two fractured ribs, a bruised lung and a concussion in the accident.

A spokeswoman for the 16-year-old, who appeared as a contestant on Dancing With The Stars, the US version of Strictly Come Dancing, said Hayes was "under great care" in hospital.

"I can confirm that Hayes was involved in an accident and has been transported to a local hospital," she said. "Thank you for your prayers and support."

The hashtag #PrayForHayes began trending on Twitter in the UK after the incident.
