Former Radio 1 DJ Chris Denning has been charged with a string of historical child sex offences dating back to the 1960s.

The 75-year-old, from London, faces six allegations concerning four boys under the age of 16 in the 1960s and 1970s at a youth disco.

Denning is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on July 14.

A Surrey Police spokesman said: "The charges relate to the wider investigation into non-recent sexual offences connected to the Walton Hop Disco named Operation Ravine."

Media mogul Jonathan King, from Bayswater, London, has also been questioned as part of the inquiry.

Denning joined the BBC when it launched in 1964 before leaving five years later in 1969.
