The Queen is a fan of the music of iconic ukulele player George Formby and can sing all of his songs, it has emerged.

She also counts show tunes from Oklahoma! and Annie Get Your Gun among her top ten favourite musical track.

The revelation about her Majesty's musical tastes comes in a BBC radio programme about her favourite music.

Among the royal top ten is Formby's 'Leaning on a Lamp-post', but the programme reveals the Queen is able to sing all of Formby's songs and was once asked to be president of the George Formby Appreciation Society.

She had reportedly been keen to accept the invitation, but acquiesced to suggestions it might not be an appropriate addition to her titles as head of the armed forces and head of the Church of England.

Other musical choices featured in 'Our Queen: 90 Musical Years' include hymns and the song 'Cheek to Cheek', sung by Fred Astaire in the film 'Top Hat'.
