Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie is recovering in hospital after falling off a stage in Switzerland.

Gillespie, 53, injured his back after slipping from the stage and falling into the crowd on Thursday.

Primal Scream were playing at the Swiss music festival Caribana when the accident happened, resulting in a premature end to their set.

A message on the official Primal Scream Twitter account on Friday thanked fans for their support.

A spokesman for Gillespie said he could not comment on the Scottish rocker's condition.

Primal Scream were formed in 1982 and are currently promoting their 11th studio album Chaosmosis.

The band are scheduled to perform several dates in the UK this summer.
