Rabbit dumped in bag in 'worst condition' ever seen
The animal, which was dumped in Dunfermline, was emaciated and soaked in urine.
An animal charity is appealing for information after a rabbit was found dumped in a bag under a bridge in Fife.
A Scottish SPCA inspector described the poor pet as being in the "worst condition" they had ever seen.
As well as being emaciated and freezing cold, the rabbit was also soaked in urine and had a respiratory condition.
The animal was abandoned in Dunfermline on March 22 on a cycle path where Lundin Road passes overheard.
A young man and woman, who are believed to be in their late teens or early 20s, were spotted leaving a blue bag and then running away from the scene by a dog walker.
When the member of the public approached the bridge, the male rabbit jumped out. The bag was found to contain a Pets At Home cardboard carrier which had no food or water, only shavings.
The rabbit is now in the care of the Scottish SPCA, where it has been named Tony.
Inspector Sarah Gregory said: "It's very lucky a member of the public found this rabbit after witnessing him being abandoned.
"The rabbit, who we've since named Tony, was found to be emaciated and freezing cold. His abdomen was soaked in urine and he had a respiratory condition, but despite that he was very friendly.
"As Tony has so much fur, it's hard to tell from the photos just how thin he was, it's possibly the worst condition I've ever seen a rabbit in.
"Thankfully he doesn't appear to have any signs of injury and after a vet check, he is doing well."
Abandoning an animal is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006.
Anyone found guilty of doing so may be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.
