Firework displays across Scotland have been cancelled after the tail end of Hurricane Oscar hit parts of the country.

Displays in Paisley, St Andrews, Dunfermline and Campbeltown have all been called off amidst red and amber weather warnings.

Flood alerts have been issued in 10 areas, including Tayside, Argyll and Bute, Central and the Scottish Borders and elsewhere, winds are expected to reach up to 60mph.

The popular display in Dunfermline was set to attract over 40,000 visitors.

It has not been rescheduled, much to the dismay of many locals.

One resident said: "Other areas, including Dollar and Alloa have managed to reschedule for tomorrow.

"I'm sure something could have been done."

However Rosyth Community Council said the cancellation was in the interest of "public safety".

A spokesperson for Dunfermline Delivers, the organisation behind the event, said that rescheduling would take "significant planning".

"Transport and policing arrangements for the fireworks require significant planning time. For these reasons it is not possible to reschedule this event" they said.

"We are very sorry that this event has had to be cancelled but the direction and speed of the wind at the height of the fireworks is a serious concern."

Similarly, the celebrations in Paisley and St Andrews have not been rescheduled.

However with winds set to slowly ease into Sunday, Campbeltown have set the new date of Monday for their annual display.

STV Weather Presenter Sean Batty said: "Sunday is set to be a better day with drier conditions and the winds easing a little."
