Appeal to trace driver after baby boy dies in car crash
A teenager was 30 weeks' pregnant when she was involved in the smash with a van.
Police are looking to trace the driver of a car after a baby died in a road crash in Fife.
An 18-year-old woman, who was 30 weeks' pregnant, had to undergo an emergency caesarean section following the smash on the B9157 near Kirkcaldy.
The baby boy, however, died a short time later, while the woman remained in a serious condition after suffering significant injuries to her neck and abdomen.
Police said three other people were treated in hospital following the crash, which happened on Wednesday, October 3.
A 59-year-old man, a 43-year-old woman and a ten-year-old girl, who were all in the van, suffered minor injuries.
Officers are now looking to trace the driver of a dark Citroen C1 which was on the road at the time.
Sergeant Stephen Quinn said: "As part of our ongoing investigation, we continue to provide the young mother and her family with all the necessary support they require, while at the same time working to establish exactly what happened during this incident.
"Our inquiries have revealed that a car, believed to be a Citroen C1, was on the road around the time of the collision and may have witnessed what happened.
"This individual, or any passengers within the vehicle, are asked to contact police immediately.
"I'd like to stress, this car did nothing wrong and we simply wish to speak with the occupants to assist with the investigation.
"Similarly, anyone with any other relevant information is also asked to come forward."
