A search has been launched after a man exposed himself to a woman in the street.

At around 2.10am in Gorebridge, Midlothian, on Wednesday, a maroon-coloured hatchback car stopped next to a 33-year-old woman who was walking home and engaged her in conversation.

The woman noticed that the man was exposing himself.

The suspect then drove off along Hunterfield Road and the matter was reported to police.

Inquiries are ongoing to trace this individual, and anyone with information is asked to come forward.

He is white, late 30s or early 40s, with short mousey brown hair, a clean-shaven complexion and wearing a light-coloured t-shirt and dark jogging bottoms.

Sergeant Lee Brodie said: "The woman was in no way threatened or injured during this incident, but nevertheless, she was left shaken and we are treating this matter very seriously.

"Anyone who remembers seeing anything suspicious activity around Greenhall Crescent during the early hours of Wednesday morning should contact police immediately.

"In addition, if you recognise the description of the suspect and can help us identify him, then please also get in touch."
