A luxury hotel in Edinburgh is to get a £3m makeover, its owners have announced.

Work has already begun on the refurbishment of the four-star Crowne Plaza Edinburgh on the city's Royal Terrace.

The revamp will see the hotel's reception and lounge modernised and given a "Scottish woodland" theme while a new whisky and cigar lounge will open onto hidden gardens to the building's rear.

Work will also be done on the restaurant and conference facilities.

The hotel's owners said the refurbishments, set to be complete by August, will transform the venue into an "iconic Edinburgh destination".

General manager Robert Glashan said, "We're excited by the investment being made into the hotel which will allow us to make improvements across the building, from refreshing the bedrooms to transforming our dining and bar areas.

"The cigar lounge will bring a new dimension to the hotel and cater to high end international travellers. We can't wait for the big reveal in the late summer."
