Controversial Meadowbank Stadium plans to be discussed
The Save Meadowbank group claims downsizing the stadium will cut 60% of the facilities.
Controversial plans to downsize Meadowbank Stadium are to be discussed at a public meeting.
The building was decommissioned to make way for a new "state-of-the-art" sports centre, however the new plans include residential homes, student accommodation and a hotel.
Campaign group Save Meadowbank said the new sports facility will only have 40% of the existing facilities, with the plan being to build 300 homes up to 12 storeys high.
Residents and centre users will be able to discuss their concerns with Edinburgh councillors at the meeting on Wednesday, April 18.
Spokeswoman Linda Furley said: "It is so popular sports groups struggle to obtain extended lets and occasional users have difficulty getting a booking.
"If that is the case with 34 facilities available, how will the proposed replacement cope when it has just 19 facilities?
"The strength of opposition was shown at last month's public meeting when just one person supported the council's plan to downsize Meadowbank.
"Under the council's plan we will lose over 40% of the existing facilities and the proposed replacement centre will be a pale shadow of its former self.
"Many people don't want student accommodation, a hotel and over 300 homes up to 12 storeys high at the expense of recreational and green space."
