Women who have taken extended career breaks are being supported by a new scheme to get back into work.

The project is funded by the Scottish Government and will place successful applicants with one of the 13 employers who have signed up.

They will take on a three month placement to refresh their skills and experience and equip them for employment.

At an event at Standard Life in Edinburgh on Wednesday Women Returners chatted to women about what they need to apply and gave them a chance to network with other in an informal setting.

Participant Caroline Munro said: "I've been around the home for a few years so going back into an office environment is probably going to be a little bit odd for me.

"I'm possibly lacking a little bit of confidence now having been out of that kind of environment, so it has been interesting to speak to other people that have been in that same position."

Jamie Hepburn, minister for employability and training, said: "The programme is playing a key role in identifying and addressing the issues which prevent women re-entering the workforce following a career break.

"I'm delighted these leading financial companies are supporting women returners."
