Two cannabis plants were found growing in bin bags at the side of a road in Fife.

The illegal plants were confiscated by officers after being discovered on Castlandhill Road, Rosyth.

The plants - each believed to be worth about £200 - will be destroyed, police said.

A spokeswoman said: "We received a report of cannabis plants having been left at the side of Castlandhill Road on Wednesday, January 10.

"Officers collected them and will arrange for their destruction.

"Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact officers. If the owners wish to claim them, we'd ask them to get in touch."

On Twitter, Police Scotland joked somebody may have mistaken them for a Christmas tree.

"Did somebody get their cannabis plants confused with their Christmas trees and throw out the wrong thing after the festive season?" they asked.

"Easy mistake I suppose," they added. "Safely lodged with us."
