CCTV images of two men have been released after an attack at a taxi rank in Edinburgh.

A 39-year-old suffered serious facial injuries when he was punched several times on the face on the Royal Mile next to North Bridge.

Police are looking to trace the two men over the incident, which took place at around 9.20pm on Saturday, September 16.

The first man is described as in his 20s, around 5ft 11in with fair hair.

At the time of the assault he was wearing a red T-shirt with white stripes on the side.

The second man is in his 20s and around 6ft with short dark hair.

He was wearing a dark-coloured jumper with light jeans.

The two men were last seen entering a taxi with a woman and heading in the direction of Cockburn Street.

Detective constable Andy Cory, of Gayfield CID, said: "We've conducted numerous enquiries in the area since the incident and are now appealing for the public's help.

"Anyone who recognises these men is urged to contact us as soon as possible.

"Likewise, if the men see this appeal, they are asked to get in touch with us themselves."
