A rapist has been jailed for nine years after a prolonged campaign of domestic abuse.

Shane Ramsey, 21, was found guilty of two rapes and three assaults at the High Court in Edinburgh.

Ramsay's conviction follows an investigation by Police Scotland's Domestic Abuse Taskforce (DATF) after reports of his offending were received in 2016.

He committed the offences in Gorebridge, Midlothian, and Hawick, Borders, over a six-year period.

Detective inspector Debbie Forrester, of the DATF, said: "Through our work with colleagues in partner agencies we have been able to build up a picture of Ramsay's offending and speak to those who he abused, providing them with specialist support.

"I commend his victims for having the strength to come forward and to relive their ordeals in court, and I would also like to thank my team for their hard work and thorough inquiry - together this led to a conviction and lengthy sentence."

She added: "Ramsay is a dangerous young man - he poses a significant risk of harm to any partners and will be monitored accordingly once he is released.

"I hope that other victims of abuse have the courage to report such crimes to us in the knowledge that we will do all we can to protect and help them and bring those responsible to justice."
