Hometown Hero: TV and radio presenter Nicky Campbell
TV presenter and journalist has never forgotten his upbringing in Scotland's capital.
Hometown Hero is a series celebrating some of the area's best known and widely loved names.
While for so long Nicky Campbell struggled to find his real family, he always knew where home was.
Born in Edinburgh in 1961, Campbell was adopted at four days old by a couple in the city.
At Edinburgh Academy, Campbell gained the skills which would see him become a respected TV presenter, radio host and journalist.
Originally the face of Wheel of Fortune, a stint on Top of the Pops made the Scot a household name.
His career moved away from light entertainment and onto more serious subjects as he looked at life's bigger issues.
A sense of identity has been at the heart of his work since appearing on an episode of Who Do You Think You Are and led to Campbell fronting his show Long Lost Family with Davina McCall.
A book, called Blue Eyed Son, dealing with adoption followed as the presenter aimed to share his wider experiences with others.
Despite his career taking him to England, the Scot enjoyed a foray into the world of music to express his feelings about growing up in the capital with the song Edinburgh Rain.
"I really wanted to write a song about how brilliant it was growing up in Edinburgh and my mum has kept all the home cine footage which I put in the video."
For Campbell, home truly is where the heart is.
