A gallery worker in Edinburgh has been given a surprise glimpse into his family history in an exhibition he's helped put on display.

The work of photographers David Hill and Robert Adamson is on show at the National Portrait Gallery and features an array of the partnership's images.

Now William Snow, a member of the gallery's marketing team, has discovered one picture features his great-great-great grandmother Grace Ramsey.

Just four years after the medium of photography was announced to the world, David Octavius Hill and Robert Adamson formed a photographic partnership in Edinburgh.

From their studio on Calton Hill they produced thousands of photographs, with Grace appearing in one of the Newhaven fishwives.

The display is the largest collection of the pairs' work in 15 years. Experts say the special chemistry between them means the photographs have stood the test of time.
