A street art project will transform the streets of Dundee in a colourful mural trail.

OpenClose Dundee are organising a trial project of seven doors in lanes, closes and alleyways around the city centre with support from Place Partnership.

Local artists armed with overalls, brushes and pots of colourful paint will tackle some of the city's most vandalised buildings.

Within the next two weeks, doors in Coutties Wynd, New Mill Entry, Pullar's Close, Peter Street, Sugarhouse Wynd, Meadow Entry and an alley off Commercial Street will all be receiving makeovers.

Trail organiser Russell Pepper said: "Everyone has been incredibly positive about the project - literally every shopkeeper I've spoken to has loved the idea and wanted to have their door painted.

"It's incredibly encouraging and Dundee is clearly crying out for street art - it's just a shame we can't paint them all."

A spokesman from city development at Dundee City Council said: "The council has always supported public art in the city and are in favour of projects like this.

"Similar mural trails in Glasgow and Aberdeen have proved successful providing a positive impact on our city."

Trail maps will soon be available in local shops and cafes, so that admirers can rediscover the forgotten areas of Dundee.
