A community centre has been badly damaged after a large fire tore through it.

The blaze broke out in the Gorebridge Beacon in Midlothian just after 4.30am on Thursday.

Fire crews attended the incident in Hunterfield Road in Gorebridge.

The road was closed by police to allow firefighters to battle the blaze.

Four appliances have been called to the building fire.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "We believe it is the community hub on fire.

"Firefighters are cutting away. We do not believe anyone has been injured.

"It is the building itself on fire."
