Police have launched a fresh appeal to trace the driver of a BMW after a motorcyclist was injured in a hit-and-run.

A detailed description of the vehicle has been released following the collision on Monday, which happened at around 8.25pm on Burdiehouse Road in Edinburgh at the junction with Southhouse Broadway.

A Honda CBR 125 motorcycle was involved in a crash with a white BMW 5 Series, which was last seen heading in the direction of Straiton.

The 59-year-old male rider suffered rib and wrist injuries was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.

The BMW is described as a saloon with tinted windows and an M5 body kit.

It was a newer model which had a personalised plate believed to include the numbers 5 and 3.

Constable Ross Halliday, of the road policing unit at Fettes, said: "We are continuing our enquiries to trace the BMW and are appealing for anyone who recognises this vehicle's description to come forward.

"If the driver sees this appeal, we'd urge them to make contact with us as soon as possible to assist with the ongoing investigation."
