Edinburgh was the driest place in the UK last month, according to new figures from the Met Office.

While many parts of Scotland had a wet April, it was a very different story in the capital with the least amount of rainfall recorded in the country.

Just over 3mm of rain fell at Gogarbank - 7% of the monthly average - while the Botanic Gardens had 4mm - 10% of what was expected at this time of year.

It was a mild month overall with a notable warm spell early in the month but some cold nights later in the month pulled the night-time temperatures closer to average.

As a whole, temperatures in Scotland rose to 0.6C above the monthly average.

The report also noted the numbers are in keeping with a recent trend with five of the warmest Aprils on record coming since 2003.
