Scotland's oldest purpose-built concert venue is to reopen next month after a £6.5m redevelopment.

Work at Edinburgh University's St Cecilia's Hall on Niddry Street has been ongoing for the past two years.

The refurbished venue's concert room and music museum has been transformed as part of the project.

St Cecilia's four exhibition galleries will showcase more than 400 instruments from the university's music collection, which spans four centuries.

More than £2m for the venture was raised from outside the university with funding received from the lottery and Edinburgh World Heritage.

Built in 1763, the building was originally commissioned by the Edinburgh Musical Society and was designed by architect Robert Mylne.
