Celebration at zoo ahead of tapir calf's Belgium move
Staff will celebrate World Tapir Day as baby Baku makes move to Antwerp.
Staff at Edinburgh Zoo are planning a special celebration as they prepare to say farewell to one of their youngest animals.
Baby tapir calf Baku will move to Antwerp Belgium with wildlife workers ready to send him off in style on World Tapir Day on Thursday, April 27.
As part of the celebrations, Baku will eat some of his favourite foods alongside mum Sayang and dad Mowgli
Keeper Karen Stiven says Baku's move is part of an effort to ensure the Malayan tapir does not become extinct.
She said: "Baku is now of the age that he would have naturally separated from mum in the wild and we really want to mimic this natural behaviour.
"We are sad to see him go but also really excited about the role he will go on to play in the protection of this very unique species."
